Why It’s Important to De-stress with Meditation and Relaxing Music - Even For Just 10 Minutes

Updated: May 10, 2023

It’s important to take some time out to relax in your busy, stressful day - even for a short period. We all need it & we all deserve it, especially now, during these difficult times. Relaxing or doing even a short meditation, accompanied with stress relieving music or sounds will always assist you with this.

Music & Sound Can Affect Body & Mind…

Music & sound have a profound effect on body and mind - we know that from our own experience & countless psychological studies which have shown that listening to music lowers your blood pressure and is a reliable way to relieve stress. A slow melody or relaxing nature sounds such as rain & other water sounds, can calm your mind, relax your muscles and lower your heart beat, therefore making you feel more relaxed generally. This also helps to reduce the release of cortisol - the ‘stress hormone’.

Use Music & Relaxing Sounds to Help Relax Your Mind & Body…

So, a good way to relax is to meditate whilst listening to relaxing or meditation music or sounds. You should combine this with simple breathing exercises. You can also do this whilst you study or to help you to sleep and help you overcome insomnia. Audio and videos described as ‘Sleep Music’, ‘Meditation Music’, Relaxing Music’, ‘Black Screen Music’ can help you to relax. A quick YouTube or Google search will present lots of videos & audio material which you can use. You can also find a collection of 10 minute, 20 minute, 30 minute & longer videos here on our Meetime Relaxation YouTube channel.

Use Your Lunch or Coffee-break: you only need 10 Minutes…

10 Minutes is all you need - more if you can. Either way it’s always going to be of benefit to take some ‘Meetime’ to relax or de-stress. But it’s important that you don’t just do this at the end of the day. You should try to do this during the day too, during your coffee or lunch break, for example. Setting aside even just 10 minutes to do this can have real benefits for your general wellbeing and set you up for the rest of the day.

Conclusion:

Whether it’s just 10 minutes, 20 minutes or an hour, it’s important to make time for yourself so that you can help to promote a better mental & emotional wellbeing. The benefits become self-evident simply in the way you ‘feel’ immediately afterwards.

The more often you put this practice into your daily routine, the longer lasting the ‘compound’ positive effects will be. Combine this with healthy eating and an exercise fitness regime and your general physical health will benefit, too.
